PM Anwar Defends Federal Aid Policy, Says All States Are Assisted Fairly

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has rejected claims that the Federal Government favours certain states when providing aid, stressing that assistance is channelled based on the needs and welfare of the people regardless of political differences.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said the government had allocated billions of ringgit for flood mitigation projects in Johor and continued to provide similar support to Kelantan despite the state being led by an opposition party.

He said government assistance should not be viewed through a political lens as the main priority was ensuring citizens receive the necessary support, especially in areas affected by challenges such as flooding.

“In Johor, we have provided billions of ringgit for flood mitigation projects and the projects have already started.

“In Kelantan, it is the same. Although they do not support me, we still provide assistance because the people are facing difficulties,” he said during the ‘Yok! Meriahkan Johor! Undi Harapan’ campaign event in Banang Jaya on Thursday.

Anwar said the decision to approve flood mitigation projects in Kelantan was made because many Malaysians there require assistance, adding that government responsibilities must be carried out fairly across all states.

He also urged voters to use their opportunity during the Johor State Election (PRN) wisely, saying the outcome would have an impact on the future of the next generation.

“We want this generation to have a better future than us. We seek change so that Johor can become better,” he said.

The Prime Minister also stressed that national stability depends on leaders who are able to protect the interests of all communities without sidelining any group.

“A country can only remain peaceful and progress when we take care of everyone — Malays, Chinese and Indians. We cannot continue fighting,” he said.

The campaign event was also attended by PH Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and several PH candidates contesting in the Johor state election.
