Hannah Yeoh Urges Pekan Nanas Voters To Give PH Another Chance

Date:

DAP deputy secretary-general Hannah Yeoh has urged voters in the Pekan Nanas state constituency to give Pakatan Harapan (PH) another opportunity to serve the area in the Johor State Election.

She said Pekan Nanas needed a representative who could not only provide services to residents but also effectively voice the concerns of the people at the Johor State Legislative Assembly.

Hannah said the role of a state assemblyman goes beyond community service, as elected representatives must also fight for development projects and local issues while working with ministries and government agencies to speed up solutions for residents.

She expressed confidence in PH candidate for Pekan Nanas, Yeo Tung Siong, describing him as an experienced candidate who understands the proper channels and agencies needed to address issues faced by the people.

“I believe he will serve fairly without looking at the political background of residents,” she said during a press conference here today.

However, Hannah stressed that PH would not take voter support for granted, saying the party’s chances of winning would depend greatly on voter turnout.

She said while PH had received encouraging responses during its campaign activities, the actual outcome would only be determined by the number of voters who turn up on polling day.

“If voter turnout is low, it will be difficult for us to predict the result. We know winning here is not easy.

“That is why I urge those who want to give PH another chance to serve in Pekan Nanas to come out and vote. There is still time to make plans to return and cast your ballot,” she said.

Meanwhile, Yeo said PH’s victories in the 2013 and 2018 General Elections were achieved when voter turnout exceeded 80 per cent, compared with around 60 per cent during the 2022 Johor State Election.

He said no assumptions could be made at this stage, adding that the voter turnout figure would provide a clearer indication of PH’s chances in Pekan Nanas.

The Pekan Nanas state seat will see a straight fight between Yeo and incumbent Tan Eng Meng from Barisan Nasional (BN).
