Israel has shared intelligence information with the United States regarding an alleged new and specific plot by Iran to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to US media reports.
The report emerged amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran, following fresh attacks involving both countries that have raised concerns over the possibility of a wider conflict. Questions were also raised after Trump used an older Air Force One aircraft while leaving Türkiye following the NATO Summit.
CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Washington has been monitoring a continuous flow of intelligence related to possible assassination threats against Trump. However, the latest warning from Israel reportedly involved a more specific alleged plot.
The Wall Street Journal, which also cited unnamed sources, reported that the intelligence information pointed to a new assassination plan targeting the US president.
Iran has previously vowed to retaliate against Trump over his decision during his first administration to order the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.
When contacted by AFP regarding the reports, a White House official who declined to be named referred to Trump’s own remarks on Wednesday.
“They want to kill the US leader, which is me. I am on their list. I saw this morning that I am on all their lists,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One while returning from the NATO Summit.
Trump’s decision to use an older Air Force One aircraft when departing Türkiye also attracted attention, as a new aircraft gifted by Qatar had been flown earlier to Britain before he switched planes to continue his journey to Washington.
The aircraft change during the first overseas trip of the new plane sparked speculation over whether its security features were fully ready, especially as the US had launched new attacks against Iran, which shares a region with Türkiye.
The New York Times previously reported that the aircraft switch was made following a request from the US Secret Service as a precautionary security measure.
During a press conference, Trump avoided directly answering questions about his personal safety but hinted at previous alleged assassination attempts linked to Iran.
