Pakatan Harapan (PH) has named S Mugunthan as its candidate for the Seremban Jaya state seat in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), scheduled to take place on August 1.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke announced the candidacy of the 40-year-old, who currently serves as a research officer to a Negeri Sembilan state executive councillor. Mugunthan will replace incumbent Datuk P Gunasekaran, who is not seeking re-election after representing the constituency since 2008.
Loke expressed confidence that Mugunthan would be able to continue DAP’s strong performance in the constituency, which the party has held since it was previously known as the Senawang state seat before electoral boundary changes.
“We have won this seat since 2008 and have continued receiving the support of the people for four consecutive terms.
“I believe Mugunthan has the ability and capability to carry out his responsibilities as the people’s representative and continue the excellent service previously provided by Gunasekaran,” he said after launching PH’s operations centre and announcing the candidate for Seremban Jaya.
Loke also urged voters to support Mugunthan to help PH retain the seat and continue forming the Negeri Sembilan state government.
The Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman also paid tribute to Gunasekaran for his years of dedicated service to residents and voters since first winning the seat in 2008.
He said Gunasekaran remained committed to serving the people despite financial challenges faced by PH during its years in opposition, describing him as a loyal party member who willingly made way for a new generation of leaders after securing four election victories.
Meanwhile, Mugunthan thanked the DAP leadership for placing its trust in him to contest under the PH banner.
Having joined DAP in 2012, he pledged to work hard to ensure Seremban Jaya remains under Pakatan Harapan’s control in the upcoming state election.
