A father and his young son were among those injured in a collision involving 10 vehicles at Lebuh AMJ Cheng on Friday night.
The accident, which occurred at about 9pm, involved seven cars, a lorry, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a Honda Dash motorcycle ridden by a 39-year-old man with his 11-year-old son as a pillion passenger.
Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat said preliminary investigations found that the crash happened when a Toyota Hilux driven by a 29-year-old man travelling from Malim towards Cheng allegedly lost control before crashing into several vehicles waiting at a traffic light junction.
He said the motorcycle carrying the father and son was also hit from behind, triggering a series of collisions involving several other vehicles.
“As a result of the accident, the motorcyclist suffered a broken leg, while his son sustained head injuries and had to be intubated.
“The Toyota Hilux driver suffered minor facial injuries. All victims were sent to Melaka Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Muhammad Zaki said a preliminary screening showed the Toyota Hilux driver tested negative for drugs, while the alcohol breath test recorded a positive reading.
However, a blood sample from the driver was taken and sent to the Melaka Chemistry Department for toxicology analysis.
He added that all vehicles involved would be sent to PUSPAKOM Alor Gajah for further inspection, while police also obtained dashcam footage of the incident to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with further investigations ongoing.
