An elderly female shopkeeper experienced a terrifying ordeal after her grocery store in Ketengah Jaya, Dungun, was robbed by three armed men yesterday afternoon.
Dungun District Police Chief Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said the 70-year-old victim was operating the shop alone at about 1.45pm when the suspects arrived armed with a machete and a metal rod.
He said the suspects allegedly restrained the woman by tying her hands and covering her mouth with adhesive tape before escaping with several valuables belonging to the victim.
“The stolen items included jewellery worn by the victim, cash, two mobile phones and personal documents, with the total losses estimated to be tens of thousands of ringgit.
“However, the victim did not suffer any injuries during the incident,” he said in a statement.
Nik Ab Halim said police are currently working to track down the three suspects, who are believed to have fled the scene in a grey Proton Iswara.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery involving weapons.
