Several areas across seven states are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 9pm, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement shared on Facebook, MetMalaysia said the weather warning in Perak involved Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak and Batang Padang.
The same conditions are also forecast in several areas of Kelantan, including Tumpat, Kota Bharu, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang.
For Terengganu, the affected areas are Besut, Hulu Terengganu and Dungun, while in Pahang, the warning covers Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin.
MetMalaysia also issued warnings for parts of Johor involving Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi, as well as Miri (Marudi) and Limbang in Sarawak.
In Sabah, affected areas include the interior districts of Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort and Keningau, along with the West Coast district of Papar.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when signs indicate thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour that are expected to occur for more than an hour.
The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
