A 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed while a six-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after their motorcycle collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle along Jalan Utama Mempaga in Bentong on Tuesday night.
The crash occurred at about 10.48pm near Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan and involved a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux driven by a 43-year-old man.
Bentong District Police Chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said preliminary investigations found that both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the incident.
He said the Toyota Hilux was travelling from Kuala Lumpur towards Raub when its driver allegedly overtook several vehicles at a double line before entering the opposite lane.
The pickup truck then collided head-on with the motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.
The motorcyclist suffered severe head, arm and leg injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the six-year-old pillion rider sustained serious injuries to his left leg and is receiving treatment at Bentong Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux and his passenger escaped without injuries.
Police believe the accident was caused by the Hilux driver overtaking at a double line and driving in a reckless and dangerous manner.
The driver has been arrested, and police will apply for a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist with investigations.
A preliminary urine screening test returned negative for drugs, while a blood sample has been taken for further analysis.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
