Police have detained four individuals to assist in investigations into an alleged bullying and criminal intimidation case involving a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Membakut, Sabah.
Beaufort District Police Chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said the arrests were made after the teenager lodged a police report, claiming she had repeatedly been threatened and forced to hand over money by a group of individuals.
“Following the report, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Beaufort District Police Headquarters (IPD) launched an intelligence-led operation and successfully arrested all four suspects within the district,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 507B of the Penal Code for harassment or bullying causing fear and emotional distress, as well as Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Police said investigations are ongoing to complete the investigation paper before it is submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further instructions and possible legal action.
The Beaufort District Police Headquarters also urged the public, particularly parents and schools, to remain vigilant about students’ safety and to report any incidents involving bullying, intimidation or extortion without delay.
Police further advised members of the public not to spread unverified information or speculate about the case on social media, warning that doing so could interfere with ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.
