Two Women Rescued After Being Trapped In Lift At Sandakan Federal Building

Date:

Two women were safely rescued after being trapped inside a lift for about 35 minutes at Wisma Persekutuan Sandakan in Batu 7 following a power disruption on Tuesday.

Sandakan District Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer Sulaiman Salama said a rescue team was dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call from a member of the public.

By the time officers arrived, electricity had already been restored. However, the lift doors remained jammed, leaving both women trapped on the sixth floor.

“One of the victims told us they had been trapped inside the lift for about 35 minutes before they were rescued,” Sulaiman said.

Throughout the operation, APM personnel maintained constant communication with the women to keep them calm while rescue efforts were underway.

The rescue team used a spreader cutter to force open the jammed lift doors before safely evacuating both victims.

“Thanks to the swift response of our personnel, the lift doors were successfully opened and both women were brought out safely without any injuries,” he said.

The operation was concluded after authorities confirmed the situation was safe and under control.

Sulaiman also advised the public to remain calm if they become trapped in a lift and to immediately contact building management or emergency services for assistance. He said prompt reporting of such incidents helps speed up rescue operations and minimises risks to those trapped.
