A wild elephant has become an unexpected social media star after it was filmed calmly stopping outside a roadside kuih stall in Felda Umas, leaving residents both amused and concerned.
The viral TikTok video captured the elephant strolling along a village road before pausing outside the stall at around 11am, as if curiously checking out the surroundings before quietly continuing on its way.
Resident Alishah Rashid, 31, who witnessed the encounter, said the elephant appeared calm throughout the brief visit, delighting those nearby with its unexpected stop.
She said wild elephants are no strangers to the village and are often seen roaming the area either alone or in herds. Although they have never damaged homes, the animals frequently destroy crops, causing financial losses for local farmers.
According to Alishah, residents have previously lodged complaints with the authorities, and several elephants were relocated from the area. However, the animals eventually returned.
While the elephant’s latest appearance has entertained many online, villagers remain concerned about the ongoing human-wildlife conflict and hope the authorities will implement effective measures to prevent crop damage and ensure the safety of both residents and the elephants.
