Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Jeram Padang state seat, G Manivannan, is relying on nearly two decades of political experience as he seeks to bring changes and address key issues affecting residents in the area.
Manivannan said improving employment opportunities, education and infrastructure would be among his main priorities if given the mandate to represent the constituency.
He described the three areas as basic needs that require attention to help improve the quality of life for local residents.
“I believe the people want a representative who understands both state and federal government structures and can bring opportunities from these levels directly to the grassroots,” he said.
The former Kapar Member of Parliament and former Political Secretary at the PKR President’s Office said his experience at the national level has provided him with a better understanding of government administration and how it can be used to benefit the community.
Manivannan, who is also a lawyer, said he decided to contest in Jeram Padang after recognising several issues faced by residents and believes he has the ability to help address them.
He added that voters in the traditional Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold are now more mature in evaluating the capabilities and credibility of candidates.
“I came to Jeram Padang because I know there are problems here, and I am confident I can help solve them,” he said.
Manivannan will face a four-cornered contest against incumbent Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir from BN, R Sri Sanjeevan from Bersatu and Dayana Dal from Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI).
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 28 for early voting, while polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election will be held on Aug 1.
