Melaka Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Noordin experienced a frightening moment when a large tree collapsed onto her residence at Pantai Peringgit here while she was performing prayers at about 5am today.
The incident occurred during heavy rainfall, which was believed to have caused the tree to fall and hit the front section of the house, damaging the gate, garage roof and three vehicles parked within the compound.
Kalsom said she was carrying out her prayers when she was startled by a loud crashing sound before discovering that the fallen tree had covered the front area of her home.
“I was praying when I suddenly heard a very loud cracking sound. When I looked outside, the front yard was already covered by the fallen tree.
“I immediately woke my children and grandchildren to leave the area for safety before contacting the Fire and Rescue Department for assistance,” she said when contacted today.
She added that among the damaged vehicles were an official government vehicle and a van.
Kalsom said she was grateful that no one was injured in the incident, as the fallen tree only affected the front section of the house.
“Thankfully, only the vehicles were damaged. The most important thing is that all my family members are safe,” she said.
