Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has welcomed the government’s plan to increase assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme but questioned why the announcement was made during the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy chairman said any additional financial aid for the people should be welcomed, but urged voters to consider the timing of the announcement.
“If the government wants to increase SARA, then go ahead. Even if it is doubled, Alhamdulillah. If the people receive more assistance, we are grateful.
“But the people should realise that when such an announcement is made during an election, it gives the impression that it is being used for political gain,” he said.
Hamzah also urged voters to assess such announcements carefully and not be swayed solely by promises made during election campaigns.
