Police have detained two 16-year-old boys to assist investigations into an alleged rape involving a teenage girl in Jerteh, Besut.
Besut district police chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the arrests were made following a report received regarding the incident involving a 15-year-old victim.
He said initial investigations found that the incident was believed to have taken place at about 6pm on July 30 at a house in Jerteh.
“The teenager came forward to lodge a police report before being referred to the hospital for further medical examination.
“Following the report, police detained two male suspects, both aged 16, to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The case is being investigated under Section 375B of the Penal Code.
Mohd Rozaime said police viewed all sexual offences seriously, especially those involving teenagers, and assured that the investigation would be carried out thoroughly, transparently and professionally.
He added that appropriate action would be taken against those involved in accordance with the law if sufficient evidence is found.
The police chief also advised teenagers to prioritise personal safety, maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid situations that could expose them to the risk of crime.
He urged parents and guardians to remain attentive towards their children’s activities, monitor their social interactions and provide continuous guidance and support.
The public was also reminded not to spread speculation or information that could interfere with investigations or affect the sensitivity of the case.
