Hackers Strike Again: Rafizi Exposes Fake Sex Tape, $100K Ransom Plot

Date:

Former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has revealed that he received a blackmail email containing a purported sex video involving himself and another man.

The Pandan MP said the anonymous sender demanded USD100,000 (about RM420,000) in exchange for not releasing the alleged video.

“They sent screenshots of the so-called video along with a QR code for the money transfer. The screenshots show a man on a bed in a blurred setting, similar to past fake videos, with a face resembling mine,” Rafizi explained in a social media statement today.

He believes the material is an old doctored video designed to both smear his reputation and hack his electronic devices.

“I constantly face hacking attempts on my phone, laptop, and other devices. The most dangerous attempt came from an international firm trying to breach my iPhone and Apple accounts. Thankfully, Apple’s security system immediately locked down my devices when the attempts were detected,” he added.

Rafizi noted that he has been targeted by hackers four times in the past nine months—on November 14, 2024, and on March 6, June 25, and September 3 this year.

He also said Subang MP Wong Chen received a similar blackmail email, accusing both of them of having ties with the same man. Wong Chen has since lodged a police report.

Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, confirmed the report, stating that investigations are underway under Section 385 of the Penal Code (extortion) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (misuse of network services).

“The investigation is ongoing to track down the sender of the email,” he said.
