Ahmad Zahid Warns Against Dragging Civil Servants Into Political Conflicts

Date:

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has criticised attempts to pressure civil servants amid ongoing political developments, stressing that government officers should not be involved in political disputes.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, claimed that some civil servants had been called for questioning over their attendance at ministry programmes held in states where elections were taking place.

However, he did not reveal the identities of those allegedly applying pressure, only stating that the individuals involved held senior positions.

Speaking at the ministry’s monthly assembly, Ahmad Zahid urged civil servants to continue carrying out their duties according to established regulations and legal procedures.

“I know some of you before me here have been summoned and may have faced pressure due to political conflicts. Continue serving and carry out the responsibilities entrusted to you through the proper channels,” he said.

He assured civil servants that he would protect them while maintaining professionalism and ensuring that all matters were handled according to rules and legal processes.

Ahmad Zahid also reminded government officers to remain informed about political developments and understand government policies but avoid becoming involved in partisan politics.

He stressed that maintaining a clear separation between politics and administration is essential to ensure civil servants continue serving the country and the people with integrity.

He added that government operations must continue despite rising political tensions, saying administrative duties should not be disrupted by political contests.

Ahmad Zahid said recent developments, including the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, may have created concerns among civil servants over the stability of the unity government.

However, he reiterated that the federal administration will continue functioning based on the agreement that the unity government remains in place until the dissolution of Parliament.

He said state-level political developments should not affect the federal government’s operations, as all responsibilities entrusted by the people must continue to be carried out as usual.
