Police Nab MPV Driver Over Suspected Drink Driving Offence

Date:

A local man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during an Ops Mabuk operation conducted at Jalan Stutong here late last night.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 31-year-old suspect was detained at about 11.55pm while driving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

He said a breathalyser test found that the suspect’s alcohol level exceeded the permitted limit under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The suspect has been detained to assist investigations and for further action,” he said in a statement today.

During the same operation, police also issued 20 summonses for various traffic offences detected.

Alexson said the Kuching District Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division would continue increasing enforcement operations from time to time to curb drink-driving offences and ensure road safety.

He also reminded motorists to always comply with traffic regulations and avoid driving after consuming alcohol to protect themselves and other road users.
