Malaysia’s former Chief Justice, Tun Mohd Eusoff Chin, has passed away at the age of 90.
The news was confirmed by his daughter, Zuliana, who said he died at 1am on Friday, August 7, 2026 (24 Safar 1448H).
“With deep sadness, I wish to inform everyone of the passing of our beloved father, Mohd Eusoff Chin, at 1am today,” she said in a statement.
She added that his body has been brought back to the family home, with funeral arrangements to be held later this morning at Masjid Al-Hidayah in Kelana Jaya.
The family said further details would be shared in due course and requested the public to pray that Allahyarham’s soul be placed among the righteous.
Tun Mohd Eusoff served as Malaysia’s Chief Justice from September 25, 1994, until December 19, 2000.
Born in Batu Gajah, Perak, he began his career as a schoolteacher in 1955 before pursuing legal studies in London. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1963.
Following his return, he joined Malaysia’s Judicial and Legal Service, holding numerous positions throughout his distinguished career, including Magistrate, Sessions Court President, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Assistant Registrar, Legal Adviser, Legislative Draftsman, High Court Judge, and President of the Court of Appeal, before eventually becoming the nation’s highest-ranking judge.
His passing marks the loss of one of Malaysia’s most prominent legal figures, whose decades of service left a lasting impact on the country’s judiciary.
