Two locations in Sarawak recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings on Friday morning, with Kota Samarahan registering an API of 110 and Kuching recording 109 as of 6am.
According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), seven other monitoring stations across the state recorded moderate air quality levels.
Sri Aman recorded an API of 84, followed by Sarikei (67), Bintulu (62), Sibu (60), Samalaju (55), Mukah (54) and Kapit (53).
Meanwhile, Miri (32), Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) (31) and Limbang (30) remained in the good air quality category.
Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings between 0 and 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 are moderate, while 101 to 200 fall under the unhealthy category.
The public, particularly children, senior citizens and individuals with respiratory conditions, are advised to reduce outdoor activities and monitor the latest API readings closely until air quality improves.
