Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed rumours of internal divisions within the country’s leadership, saying some individuals are deliberately trying to create conflict by misrepresenting the decision-making process involving Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
Speaking to Iranian state television, Pezeshkian said it has become “very difficult” to communicate with Mojtaba because some people are exploiting normal discussions and decision-making procedures to fuel internal disputes.
According to Pezeshkian, Mojtaba had previously stated that although he personally disagreed with a proposal, he would accept it if it received sufficient support through the proper decision-making process.
He said a recent proposal submitted by a committee was approved by an overwhelming majority after Mojtaba indicated he would accept it if at least three-quarters of members voted in favour.
Pezeshkian accused certain individuals of taking advantage of the process by spreading misleading and dishonest claims in an attempt to damage others’ reputations and deepen divisions within Iran’s leadership.
He described the Supreme Leader as a vital source of strength for the country and said his leadership remains essential for Iran’s stability and future.
The president also claimed that Iran’s enemies had attempted to destabilise the country through sanctions and military pressure but had failed. He said the government would continue standing with the people to maintain national stability.
His remarks come after recent speculation suggesting Pezeshkian had fallen out with the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with rumours even claiming he was considering resignation. Iran’s presidential office has repeatedly denied those reports.
