Three Charged Over Alleged False Claims In PERKESO Daya Kerjaya Incentive Scheme

Three individuals were charged at the Sessions Court here today for allegedly making false claims and conspiring to submit fraudulent applications for the PERKESO Daya Kerjaya incentive programme.

The accused, identified as M S Gunaseelan, 45, S Theen Malar, 45, and A S Shisman, 45, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before Judge Shahrul Rizal Majid.

According to the charge against Gunaseelan, the business owner was accused of submitting false claims under the Daya Kerjaya 2.0 Programme using his company’s name.

He was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 (Act 694), which carries punishment under Section 24(2) of the same act upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Theen Malar, who is Gunaseelan’s wife, and Shisman were charged with abetting the offence under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009, read together with Section 18 of the same legislation.

The alleged offence was committed at about 9.07pm on March 11, 2024, at a premises located along Jalan Persiaran 1, Taman Senangin, Lenggeng.

If found guilty, all three accused could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of not less than five times the amount or value of the false claim, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Deputy Public Prosecutor from the MACC, Syairah Aqilah Khalil, proposed bail of RM15,000 for each accused.

The accused, who were unrepresented by lawyers, requested a lower bail amount, claiming they were unable to afford the proposed sum.

The court later set bail at RM12,000 each for Gunaseelan and Shisman, while Theen Malar was granted bail of RM10,000, with one surety each.
