Hadi Confirms PN, BN Discussions Underway For Melaka Election

Date:

Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have started discussions on seat allocations for the upcoming Melaka state election, according to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said both coalitions had already held initial negotiations, with more discussions expected to take place as preparations for the state polls continue.

Abdul Hadi said the discussions would consider several factors, including the outcome of the previous general election, where BN failed to secure any parliamentary seats in Melaka.

Although the Melaka State Legislative Assembly has yet to be dissolved, he said talks between PN and BN were already underway, particularly involving efforts related to Malay-Muslim unity.

“The Melaka state assembly has not been dissolved, but discussions, especially on Malay-Muslim unity, are ongoing. PN and BN are working to unite and save the Malays,” he said after Friday prayers.

His remarks came in response to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who previously stated that BN planned to defend 21 of the 28 state seats currently held by the coalition in Melaka.

However, Abdul Hadi said negotiations between the two coalitions were still ongoing and no final decision had been reached.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi welcomed the decision by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to appoint two PN assemblymen as members of the state executive council.

He also said another PN assemblyman would be appointed as deputy speaker of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly.
