Lee Zii Jia Pulls Out of China Open as Injury Woes Persist

Date:

Malaysia’s top men’s singles shuttler, Lee Zii Jia, has withdrawn from the upcoming China Open, scheduled to begin next Tuesday (July 22) in Changzhou. This marks his second consecutive pullout, following his absence from the ongoing Japan Open in Tokyo.

According to the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) official website, the 27-year-old has been listed as “withdrawn” from the tournament. The likely reason is a lingering ankle injury he sustained during the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou last December — an issue that continues to hamper his recovery.

Team LZJ has yet to release an official statement on the withdrawal or provide clarity on when Zii Jia might return to competitive action.

So far this year, Zii Jia has only participated in two tournaments — the Orleans Masters and the All England, both held in March. Following his early return to the court, the independent shuttler admitted to rushing his comeback, which may have worsened the injury.
