A quiet late-night dinner at a Section 13 restaurant turned into chaos when a man allegedly went berserk after being told to stop smoking indoors. The incident, which happened at 11.50 pm last Thursday, has since gone viral on social media.
According to police, the complainant — an eight-month-pregnant woman — and her husband were eating when they noticed a man puffing away at the next table. Worried about her health and unborn baby, the couple asked staff to intervene, but the man ignored them. After the husband himself issued three warnings, the smoker allegedly snapped, stood up and marched over.
The woman claims the man deliberately blew smoke in her direction. Her husband tried to shield her while she began recording the confrontation, fearing things could turn violent. The suspect then reportedly slapped her hand, knocking her phone to the floor. Shoving followed before the man stormed out.
Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed the case, saying CCTV footage backs up the couple’s account. The suspect has been identified and a manhunt is underway.
Investigators have opened a case under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100 for indecent behaviour.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Sergeant Rafiah Isa at 012-3770327.
