A food delivery rider had a frightening encounter after a stranger allegedly pointed a meat cleaver at him while he was refuelling his motorcycle at a petrol station along Jalan Pasir Panjang here on Sunday.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the incident was reported to have occurred at around 4.30pm.
He said the 26-year-old complainant, who is from Bandar Permaisuri, was filling up his motorcycle when the suspect, riding a Honda Wave, approached and stopped behind him.
“The suspect suddenly shouted at the victim, but was ignored. He then became angry and yelled, ‘Ni sekor lagi lambat, mu ingat ni pam bapak mung ko’ (Another slow one, do you think this is your father’s petrol pump?),” Azli said when contacted on Monday.
The suspect then allegedly took a meat cleaver from his motorcycle basket and pointed it at the victim, causing the rider to panic and flee the scene.
No injuries or losses were reported. The 55-year-old suspect from Kampung Nibong was subsequently arrested by the Kuala Terengganu District Criminal Investigation Division’s RO team.
A video of the incident had earlier gone viral on social media, showing the suspect behaving aggressively while holding and allegedly pointing the meat cleaver towards the victim.
Police checks found that the suspect had 15 previous criminal and drug-related records, including being wanted in connection with a case under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Azli said a urine screening test also returned positive for methamphetamine.
Police seized several items believed to be linked to the incident, including a meat cleaver with a plastic handle measuring about 32 centimetres, a Honda Wave motorcycle, a red T-shirt, batik-patterned long trousers and a motorcycle key.
The suspect was remanded for four days at the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate’s Court from Monday until August 13.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
