Still Have A 3DS? You Can Turn It Into A Wireless Spotify Remote

Date:

Nintendo may have discontinued the 3DS nearly six years ago, but the beloved handheld is still finding new uses thanks to its active homebrew community.

Owners of a 3DS capable of running homebrew software can now transform the clamshell console into a wireless remote for controlling Spotify.

The project, known as Spotify3DS, allows users to control Spotify playback from their 3DS, giving the ageing handheld a surprisingly modern function.

The setup requires a 3DS that can run homebrew applications, along with the necessary files and instructions available through the project’s GitHub repository.

Once configured, the device can be used as a dedicated Spotify controller, adding another unconventional use to Nintendo’s discontinued handheld.

The project is another example of how the 3DS continues to live on through fan-made software, years after Nintendo stopped producing the console.
