The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be handed over to the relevant authorities for a full investigation based on all findings and information contained in the report, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the authorities involved would include the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), agencies responsible for matters under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA), Bank Negara Malaysia and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
“As a start, we will hand it over to the authorities as announced by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), including PDRM, MACC, AMLA, Bank Negara and LHDN, to conduct a full investigation based on all the findings.
“This includes information contained in the report as well as additional information provided by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan during yesterday’s debate on the Tabung Haji RCI report,” he told reporters.
Fahmi was speaking after attending the presentation of sponsorship contributions for the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations here today.
Asked about calls from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) lawmakers for a new RCI covering TH’s management from 2021 to 2025, Fahmi, who is also Madani Government spokesman, said two decisions would need to be considered.
“First, at the Cabinet level, whether to continue or expand it, because we know that when the RCI was established in 2021, it was not only a Cabinet decision. Since this is a Royal Commission of Inquiry, the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is also required,” he said.
The TH RCI report was made public on July 29. It highlighted various weaknesses in TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020 and put forward 25 recommendations for improvement, 75 per cent of which had been implemented by TH as of July 30 this year.
Meanwhile, Fahmi described the decision by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs to attend yesterday’s special Dewan Rakyat sitting to debate the TH RCI report as a wise and appropriate move.
He contrasted their attendance with other opposition parties from Perikatan Nasional (PN), which did not attend the debate.
“We must remember that this RCI was established in 2021, when PAS and the Opposition Leader (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin) were members of the Cabinet at the time.
“But what I regret is that they chose not to attend the debate at all. They missed a good opportunity.
“Perhaps… I am not sure, they were there when the RCI was initiated and when it completed its work, but they refused to attend the debate. What are they running away from?” he said.
The special Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday was held to debate the RCI report, which was presented by Zulkifli.
The sitting was convened under Standing Order 11(3) of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat, which allows a sitting to be held during an adjournment when matters of urgent public importance arise.
