A man in China’s Guizhou Province has been sentenced to death after allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old motorcyclist more than 10 times following years of frustration over loud motorcycle noise late at night.
According to Chinese media reports, the man, surnamed Wang, had reportedly struggled with the constant noise of motorcycles being ridden through the streets at night. The disturbance allegedly affected his sleep and added to his mounting stress, eventually leading him to develop thoughts of taking revenge.
At around 2am on May 29, 2025, Wang was reportedly woken by the sound of motorcycles once again. He then took a folding knife and went outside, allegedly intending to confront riders he considered part of the group known for deliberately revving their engines and creating excessive noise.
Around 40 minutes later, Wang reportedly spotted two motorcycles travelling along a road in Guiyang, with one following the other. He first attempted to stop the rider in front but failed before managing to intercept the second motorcycle, ridden by the 19-year-old victim, surnamed Fu.
Wang allegedly attacked the teenager with the knife, stabbing him repeatedly in the chest and abdomen. The victim suffered more than 10 wounds, including five fatal injuries to his chest and abdomen.
He ultimately died from a ruptured pulmonary artery and severe blood loss.
During the first trial, the court acknowledged that riding a motorcycle that produced excessive noise late at night was inappropriate and could potentially constitute an administrative offence. However, the court stressed that such conduct did not amount to criminal wrongdoing and could not justify taking another person’s life.
Wang was subsequently convicted of intentional homicide and sentenced to death. He was also ordered to pay 100,000 yuan (around RM62,000) in compensation to the victim’s family.
Wang has appealed against the first-instance ruling, and the case has now entered the second-instance proceedings.
