Rosmah Mansor’s Bid To Remove Judge Fails In High-Stakes RM1.25 Billion Solar Case

Date:

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has failed in her appeal to have Justice Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan recuse himself from presiding over and deciding on her corruption case involving the RM1.25 billion Sarawak rural schools solar hybrid project.

A three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal, chaired by Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, unanimously dismissed the appeal by the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, ruling that she had not shown sufficient merit.

“With that, we uphold the High Court’s decision,” Ahmad Zaidi said while sitting with Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin.

Rosmah, 74, filed the recusal application two days before the verdict in her corruption case was expected to be delivered, citing an alleged leak of the draft judgment as grounds.

On September 1, 2022, Mohamed Zaini — then a High Court judge — found Rosmah guilty of three counts of corruption and sentenced her to 10 years in prison and a RM970 million fine.
