Car Crushed By Fuel Tanker, Mother And Son Believed Burnt To Death

Date:

A woman and her 12-year-old son are believed to be the two victims who were burnt to death after their car was crushed by an overturned tanker before both vehicles caught fire in Temerloh on Friday.

The fatal crash occurred at about 4.30pm at Kilometer 9 of Jalan Temerloh-Triang near Kampung Lebak, involving a Perodua Bezza and a tanker carrying 32,000 litres of diesel and petrol.

Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron said the identities of the two victims had yet to be officially confirmed and would be established through DNA comparison with their family members.

He said the victims were believed to be a 39-year-old woman and her son, who were travelling in the Bezza from Jerantut towards Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Further investigation and action are being carried out to confirm the identities of the victims,” he said.

The victims’ remains were taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) in Temerloh, with post-mortem examinations expected to be conducted on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations found that the tanker was travelling from Seremban towards Temerloh when it is believed to have lost control and entered the opposite lane.

The Bezza then reportedly collided with the side of the tanker, causing the heavy vehicle to overturn and crush the car before both vehicles caught fire.

The mother and son were trapped inside the badly damaged car and were burnt to death, while the 37-year-old tanker driver survived with minor injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the devastating collision.
