PLUS Spends RM37M Upgrading Highway Restrooms for Comfy Travel Experience

Date:

Plus Malaysia Bhd has spent about RM37 million since 2023 refurbishing public restrooms at 56 locations along its highways to enhance the travel experience.

The company completed upgrades at 32 locations in 2023 and 16 in 2024, with eight more projects currently underway at rest and service areas (R&R), lay-bys, overhead bridge restaurants, and toll plazas.

Managing Director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said the renovations are part of a five-year master plan to improve R&R and lay-by facilities until 2028. “Several locations have been earmarked for upgrades to provide more comfortable facilities and enhance service efficiency for highway users,” she said.

Upcoming upgrades include Pedas Linggi Lay-by (Northbound), Bukit Gantang Lay-by (Southbound), Tangkak Lay-by (Northbound), and Machap R&R (Southbound). Works at Gurun, Gunung Semanggol, Dengkil, and Sungai Perak R&Rs are expected to finish by the end of 2025, while projects at Mambau R&R, Pagoh R&R, Yong Peng Lay-by, Kulai Lay-by, and several toll plazas are scheduled for completion in 2026.

Nik Airina added that the refurbished restrooms are designed for sustainability, featuring natural ventilation, energy-efficient lighting, water-saving flush pumps, and modern sanitary fixtures. The facilities also include cubicles for persons with disabilities, family and child cubicles, baby changing rooms, and showers.

“This initiative reflects Plus’ commitment to improving facilities and comfort for highway users, and we appreciate the public’s cooperation in maintaining these amenities for everyone’s benefit,” she said.
