The reform agenda must not lose momentum once a government comes into power, with improvements to governance and efforts to combat corruption remaining a priority, said Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
Mohamad, who is also Agriculture and Food Security Minister, said the mandate entrusted by the people must be honoured through concrete work and action, regardless of a person’s position or background.
He stressed that those who misappropriated public funds must be held accountable, saying the fight against corruption should not depend on who is involved or how influential they are.
“For Bang Mat, reform is not merely a slogan. We have been entrusted with a mandate. Now is the time to prove it through work and action. The struggle is still long. We will continue working for the people and the country,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Mohamad said he had also attended the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh on Saturday to hear PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s presidential address, which touched on the continuation of the reform agenda.
He added that the unity government remained committed to defending the rights of Sabah and Sarawak through the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
According to Mohamad, economic growth figures were important, but they should ultimately translate into better living standards for Malaysians and stronger measures to ease the pressure of the rising cost of living.
He said the government’s performance should therefore not be judged solely through economic statistics, as the real measure was whether improvements were being felt by ordinary people.
Mohamad also welcomed the announcement on the repeal of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), describing the move as one that would provide greater space and freedom for university students.
He said continued reforms in governance, economic management and institutional development were essential to ensuring the government’s mandate produced meaningful benefits for the people.
