A woman was injured after the van she was driving collided with a wild elephant that suddenly crossed a road in Thailand, according to Must Share News.
The incident occurred at about 3.15am local time along Route 344 in Rayong province recently, when the elephant unexpectedly moved across the road in front of the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 50-year-old Sujira, suffered injuries to her head and face in the collision and required four stitches.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and helped free Sujira from the damaged van before providing initial treatment. She was later taken to a private hospital in neighbouring Chonburi province for further medical attention.
Sujira’s son, Thanadon Khamdee, said the family had been travelling from their home towards a market when they suddenly noticed a large object crossing the road.
“Because the area was dark, we thought the object was just the shadow of a large tree. Not long after that, we realised it was an elephant,” he said.
The collision left the wild elephant injured, but the animal managed to move away from the road and headed towards a canal before disappearing into the surrounding forest, according to Khaosod.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers motorists can face when travelling through areas where wild animals may cross roads, particularly during the night when visibility is limited.
