A 25-year-old woman in East Java, Indonesia, has been arrested after allegedly attacking her husband with a sickle while he was asleep, leaving him seriously injured.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday in Desa Kunir Lor, Kunir district, Lumajang, with the woman, identified as AA, allegedly attacking her 25-year-old husband, AF, inside their bedroom.
The victim suffered significant injuries and heavy bleeding following the attack. He was initially taken to Kunir Community Health Centre for treatment before being transferred to Dr Haryoto Regional General Hospital in Lumajang for further medical attention.
A local resident identified as Muslim said the victim’s injury was severe but the affected body part was not completely severed. The man was reportedly still able to sit while waiting for medical assistance.
Following the incident, the suspect allegedly fled the scene and is believed to have disposed of evidence in an attempt to avoid detection.
Residents later assisted in locating and detaining the woman before handing her over to police. Lumajang Police Public Relations Subsection Head Ipda Suprapto confirmed that the suspect is now in police custody to assist with investigations.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the motive behind the alleged assault.
Local media reports have suggested that ongoing marital problems may have contributed to the incident. The woman was reportedly angry and jealous over allegations that her husband had repeatedly been unfaithful and had frequently threatened to divorce her.
However, police have yet to establish the exact motive and are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case. The allegations concerning the couple’s marital problems have also not been independently confirmed.
