A suspected illegal street racing session on the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) early today was disrupted after police seized 41 motorcycles and detained five individuals during an enforcement operation.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said a total of 778 motorcycles were inspected during the operation, resulting in 414 traffic summonses being issued.
Of the total summonses, 369 were issued by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, while another 45 were issued by the Gombak district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.
“JSPT Kuala Lumpur seized 38 motorcycles, while BSPTD Gombak seized another three.
“Five individuals were detained under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.
The enforcement action reflects ongoing efforts by police to curb dangerous riding activities and illegal racing, particularly in areas known to attract groups of motorcyclists during the early hours.
Mohd Zamzuri urged all road users to comply with traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of themselves and other motorists.
Members of the public were also advised against carrying out vehicle modifications that do not comply with specifications, riding recklessly or becoming involved in illegal street racing activities.
