Like many K-Pop idols, BLACKPINK members have spent parts of their careers living in dorms. While the group has drawn attention for their luxurious apartments showcased on various reality shows, life wasn’t always so glamorous.
Rosé appeared on the JTBC variety show Sea of Hope, where she highlighted her amazing vocals, shared personal stories, and reflected on her career. During filming, she stayed in a small room with AKMU’s Suhyun and actress Kim Go Eun. Despite the limited space, the trio seemed to enjoy their time together, with Kim Go Eun especially excited about the new experience. Rosé explained that living in dorms with others wasn’t new to her, having done so for eight years.
However, her early days in Korea were far from comfortable. Before even joining BLACKPINK’s debut team, Rosé recalled living in cramped conditions infested with cockroaches. “At that time, it wasn’t confirmed that we would debut. Due to that, we didn’t live in such a nice place,” she shared.
The members have previously discussed the hardships they faced pre-debut, including encounters with insects. On their reality show 24/365 with BLACKPINK, they revealed living alongside cockroaches and centipedes, with only Lisa brave enough to catch them—a fact the others were grateful for.
Despite their current success and fame, Rosé’s story is a reminder of the challenging conditions many K-Pop trainees endure before achieving their dreams.
