A Toyota Vellfire was damaged after a concrete utility pole came crashing down onto the vehicle following an incident involving a trailer that snagged overhead electrical cables in Butterworth yesterday.
The incident occurred at around 5.23pm near the Garden Field junction, when the trailer reportedly caught the overhead cables as it passed through the area.
The force pulled on the cables, causing the concrete utility pole to snap at its base before toppling onto a black Toyota Vellfire that was stopped in a nearby lane.
The passenger inside the luxury MPV managed to escape unharmed and was later seen inspecting the damage caused by the fallen pole.
Witnesses reportedly heard a loud cracking sound shortly before the utility pole suddenly collapsed, leaving motorists and members of the public stunned.
The incident also quickly gained attention online, with some social media users suggesting that the Vellfire may have inadvertently prevented the falling pole from hitting another vehicle.
One user, Zul Abdul Kader, commented: “Not all heroes wear capes. Some drive Vellfires. Salute.”
Another user, Muhammad Ridzuan, suggested that the pole could have landed directly on a nearby lorry if the Vellfire had not been in its path.
However, another user, Abu Umar Azzahrawayn, pointed out that a possible electrical leak from the damaged cables could have created an additional danger for people in the area.
Emergency services responded to the scene following the incident. No fatalities were reported, while the circumstances surrounding the damage and the fallen utility pole were being assessed.
