Police have arrested a 46-year-old man suspected of making a threatening statement on social media about injuring an individual with a sword.
Acting Perlis Police Chief SAC Zaihairul Idrus said the self-employed suspect, who is from Kedah, was arrested in Langgar, Kedah, yesterday and has been remanded for three days from today.
“During the arrest, police found the sword featured in the viral post inside the vehicle driven by the suspect.
“The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958,” he said in a statement today.
Zaihairul said the threat was believed to have stemmed from a personal dispute between the suspect and the individual involved.
He said police had earlier received a report regarding a post containing the alleged threat, which was uploaded on a Facebook account and subsequently went viral.
The case was initially investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Zaihairul stressed that firm action would be taken against anyone who acts beyond the law, violates existing legal provisions or attempts to provoke tensions and threaten public peace.
