A 35-year-old local man has been arrested after allegedly committing a sexual offence against his 14-year-old daughter at a house here.
Serian district police chief Superintendent Freddy Bian Stanislaus said police received a report from the victim at about 5.06am on August 16.
He said the suspect, who is the victim’s biological father, was arrested to assist in investigations, while an application for a remand order was filed on August 17 to facilitate further investigations.
“The case is being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest.
“Upon conviction, the suspect faces imprisonment of between 10 and 30 years, as well as whipping,” he said in a statement.
Freddy said police take all forms of sexual offences and exploitation involving children seriously.
He also urged the public not to share any information, photographs or details that could reveal the victim’s identity, stressing that doing so could compromise her privacy and wellbeing.
