China has praised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his position on the One-China principle and his recent comments regarding Taiwan.
In a post on X, China’s Foreign Ministry said it welcomed Anwar’s remarks and described his position as steadfast.
“China commends Malaysian PM @anwaribrahim’s remarks on the Taiwan question and his steadfast position on the one-China principle.
“Nothing will stop China from being reunified,” the ministry said.
It added that the international community’s commitment to the One-China principle should remain firm and should not be shaken.
Responding to Anwar’s remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said adherence to the One-China principle reflected public sentiment and represented the correct position on the issue.
“There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” Lin said, according to Xinhua.
He added that China’s reunification was an “unstoppable historical trend”.
Anwar made the remarks during a recent interview with Al Jazeera, where he said he viewed Taiwan as part of China.
“It is one China. It is accepted by all,” Anwar said during the interview.
