Firefighters have successfully extinguished a forest fire that affected approximately 29 hectares at Jalan Tanjung Gelang, Kampung Kut, Daro, following a 10-day firefighting operation.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the operation officially ended at 5.30pm on Wednesday, after teams conducted final firefighting efforts across three sectors.
In Sector A, five firefighters used a forest pump to tackle hotspots behind the Buraq Oil petrol station near a birdhouse. Water was supplied from a check dam that had been dug at the site.
Sector B saw three firefighters working alongside four Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel. They operated a PBS water pump, drawing water from a roadside drain to assist with firefighting.
Meanwhile, Sector C, located near the Buraq Oil petrol station and behind a Celcom telecommunications tower, was handled by firefighters together with members of the Daro and Pulau Bruit Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Firefighters deployed a forest pump and 17 lengths of hose covering about 500 feet, with water sourced from a nearby drain.
Bomba said teams also used a total flooding technique to prevent the flames from spreading to surrounding areas.
The department confirmed that the fire, which had spread across the 29ha site, had been completely extinguished, with no visible flames remaining.
However, thermal imaging drone monitoring by the Natural Resources and Environment Board Mukah detected underground heat reaching up to 43°C in parts of the affected area.
Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the site to ensure underground hotspots do not reignite.
