MOE Orders Urgent Probe Into Student’s Death Amid Bullying, Racism Claims

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has instructed the Education Inspectorate, District Education Office and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Education Department to expedite their internal investigations into the recent death of a secondary school student in the capital.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said all issues causing public concern, including allegations of bullying and racial elements, must be taken seriously and addressed promptly based on facts and due process.

“My thoughts and condolences remain with the family and the school community following the passing of our student at a school in Kuala Lumpur recently.

“The MOE is giving full cooperation to the police and working closely with the Social Welfare Department and Ministry of Health to ensure the matter is addressed comprehensively,” she said in a Facebook post.

Fadhlina added that appropriate attention and support must also be extended to the affected family, students, teachers and the wider school community.

She said the family had been provided with psychosocial support by MOE counsellors, while teachers were briefed on the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings. Their welfare and wellbeing would also continue to be monitored.

“The MOE Smart Support Team has also been deployed to provide psychosocial support and crisis intervention to affected students to safeguard their welfare and emotional wellbeing.

“Our priority is to ensure justice for all parties and take the necessary steps to maintain a safe educational environment free from all forms of bullying and discrimination,” she said.

The incident involving the death of the secondary school student in the capital recently went viral on social media, sparking public concern over allegations of bullying and racial elements at the school.
