A man believed to be at the centre of the viral “Nanjing Sister Hong” scandal has reportedly been spotted at a clothing store in Guangzhou, more than a year after the case attracted widespread attention in China.
According to a recent claim by a netizen, the man was seen inside a department store in Guangzhou while browsing women’s clothing. Photos circulating online show a long-haired individual wearing a leopard-print top, denim shorts and high heels.

The netizen claimed that the person closely resembled “Sister Hong” and appeared to be openly shopping for women’s clothing. The individual also speculated that the man could have moved to Guangzhou and jokingly questioned whether his former “customers” would recognise him.
However, there has been no official confirmation that the person photographed is actually the man involved in the “Nanjing Sister Hong” case. The alleged sighting has nevertheless sparked renewed discussion online, with some users questioning whether he had been released and others revisiting the controversy that went viral last year.
The case first gained widespread attention in July last year after a 38-year-old man surnamed Jiao was accused of disguising himself as a woman and meeting multiple men. He reportedly used the name “Ah Hong” and wore a wig and heavy make-up to portray himself as a middle-aged woman.
Earlier reports alleged that Jiao arranged for men to visit a rented property and asked them to bring items such as milk, watermelon and cooking oil. Hidden cameras were also reportedly placed inside the property to record encounters without the men’s knowledge.
Nanjing police later confirmed that Jiao had disguised himself as a woman and had sexual relations with multiple men, with authorities saying the number of people involved was in the dozens.
The case subsequently became one of China’s most widely discussed viral stories, with “Nanjing Sister Hong” and other phrases associated with the scandal spreading extensively across social media.
