School leavers have been urged to consider current job market trends and changes in the economy when choosing university programmes to improve their chances of securing employment after graduation.
Putatan MP Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said students planning to pursue higher education should look beyond their personal interests and also assess the career opportunities likely to be available after completing their studies.
“This will help you in securing employment opportunities in the future,” he said during the SMK Putatan Form Six Centre Cohort 13 STPM 2025 Convocation at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Saturday.
Shahelmey, who also chairs Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd, said the Sabah Government remained committed to developing quality human capital to meet the state’s future needs.
He added that various forms of educational assistance had also been provided to encourage young Sabahans to continue their studies and pursue higher education.
The convocation ceremony celebrated 159 STPM 2025 graduates from SMK Putatan, which recorded a 100 per cent pass rate for the fourth consecutive year.
The school achieved a Grade Point Average of 3.00, surpassing the national average of 2.88 and Sabah’s average of 2.78. Nine candidates also achieved a perfect CGPA of 4.00.
