Police have launched an investigation into a man who allegedly performed an indecent act in front of a woman’s car at Taman Keladi, Sungai Petani, recently.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said police received a report regarding the incident at around 8pm last Thursday.
He urged anyone who recognises the suspect or has information related to the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
“Members of the public who encounter similar incidents are also advised to lodge a police report immediately or contact the emergency line at 999,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
The incident gained attention after a social media post alleged that a man had been roaming around the residential area before carrying out the indecent act. According to a Facebook post by a Sungai Petani volunteer organisation, the woman was reportedly parking her car and was still inside the vehicle when the man allegedly performed the act in front of her.
The same post also claimed that the man had previously been involved in an incident involving the theft of women’s underwear. However, police have yet to verify the allegation.
Following the incident, the organisation urged members of the public, particularly women driving alone, to remain alert and be aware of their surroundings.
Hanyan said the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
