Boss Stunned As Worker Skips Work Because ‘No Mood To Work’

Date:

Malaysian employers are no strangers to staff calling in sick or citing emergencies — but one boss says a recent excuse went beyond belief.

In a post on Threads, the frustrated employer shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from a worker who claimed he could not show up for work because his younger sibling was “acting up” and, as a result, he “had no mood to work.”

The message quickly went viral, with netizens slamming the employee for his lack of professionalism. “Next time tell him, ‘Sorry, I’m not going to give you your salary today as I don’t have the mood for it,’” one user quipped. Another wrote, “Just fire him. It’s not worth paying someone while worrying if they’ll show up.”

Some even shared their own horror stories of staff skipping work for questionable reasons. “I had a staff who came in for one day and skipped the next, claiming their sibling had breathing difficulties,” one commenter said.

The boss who shared the post said she was “at the end of her patience” with such excuses — sparking a wider debate online about workplace discipline and responsibility among younger employees.
