Mydin has instructed all of its outlets to immediately stop selling a Jalur Gemilang-themed tudung after a customer highlighted an apparent error in the Malaysian flag’s 14-point star design.
The retailer said the issue was caused by a printing error by its supplier and confirmed that measures were being taken to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
“We apologise for the oversight and appreciate the feedback,” Mydin said in a statement.
The issue came to light after a Threads user, @faizfaisal.png, spotted the tudung at Mydin’s Subang Jaya outlet and questioned how the product had passed the retailer’s checks before being put on sale.
The user said the design could be viewed as disrespectful to the Jalur Gemilang and called on Mydin to explain how the error had gone unnoticed.
“Mydin should take responsibility and explain how the design had passed its checks and recall the affected products,” he urged.
Photographs of the tudung were shared alongside the post, which subsequently gained traction on social media and sparked wider attention over the apparent mistake in the Jalur Gemilang design.
Following the complaint, Mydin ordered the affected products to be withdrawn from sale across its outlets. The retailer also said further action would be taken to strengthen its checks and ensure the same mistake does not happen again.
