The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained seven-day remand orders against a former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman and a former Treasury secretary-general to assist an ongoing investigation.
Magistrate Ezrene Zakaria issued the remand orders at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court today following an application by MACC.
The two former senior officials will remain in remand until 2 September as investigators continue gathering information related to the case.
The development comes amid MACC’s wider probe into matters involving TH following findings and recommendations contained in a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning the institution.
The RCI report, made public on 29 July, included 25 recommendations aimed at strengthening transparency, professionalism and governance at TH.
The investigation has also involved several other current and former senior officials linked to the institution, with MACC having detained and questioned individuals to assist its inquiries.
The latest remand orders mark another development in the authorities’ efforts to determine whether any offences were committed in relation to matters raised in the RCI findings.
