Police investigating the deaths of a family of four at a Desa ParkCity condominium in Kepong are now looking into an alleged illegal investment scheme involving the couple.
The development adds another financial angle to the case, which had already been linked to an alleged love scam and reported losses and debts totalling RM260,000.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said relatives of the couple were aware that they had encountered problems involving both the alleged love scam and the investment scheme.
“The family knew about the love scam problem and that they had become trapped in an illegal investment scheme,” he said in a statement today.
Fadil added that police were still investigating the claims surrounding the alleged scammer, the love scam and the RM260,000 in losses and outstanding debts.
The latest revelation comes after the bodies of the couple and their two children were discovered at their condominium in Desa ParkCity on Wednesday.
The victims were a 48-year-old man, his 47-year-old wife and their children, aged nine and seven.
Police are investigating whether mounting financial pressure over the RM260,000 debt, reportedly linked to the wife allegedly falling victim to a love scam, could have played a role in the deaths.
Investigators are also examining whether the father killed his wife and two children before taking his own life.
A note believed to have been written by the father was reportedly found on the dining table at the family’s home, prompting investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident more closely.
Police have yet to establish a definitive motive, with the alleged love scam, illegal investment scheme and financial losses remaining key aspects of the ongoing investigation.
